Position Summary

Reporting to the Dean of Students, the incumbent will participate in the preparation of departmental operating budgets, monitor and reconcile departmental financial records, including accountability process for mandatory non-tuition fees collected by areas in the department. The incumbent will also provide strategic direction and supervision to the Student Communications area of the department; ensuring activities align with Strategic Enrolment Management activities related to retention and student success. In addition to supervising all student work/study hires assigned to the Dean’s office, the incumbent will provide confidential administrative support to the Dean and other administrators in the department, including the development and implementation of effective administrative procedures, report writing and data analysis.


The successful candidate will possess a 4 year undergraduate degree coupled with training in Communications/public relations and business/administrative management. Experience in office administration and communications/public relations with a strategic focus. Effective oral & written communication skills. Excellent knowledge of spread sheet, database and word processing software with attendant keyboarding skills. Demonstrated experience in monthly financial reporting, including budgets, variance analysis. Experience in operational management, including human resources. Effective team building, client service and conflict resolution skills are required. Proven ability to work independently, be self-motivated, well under pressure, manage multiple competing deadlines while demonstrate flexibility. Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, PowerPoint, Excel, and Access), desktop publishing software (Publisher, InDesign) and website content management systems. Knowledge and familiarity with a higher education environment and the student experience is highly desirable. Experience in a postsecondary environment is an asset.
