Position Summary

Reporting to the Associate Director of Student Wellness and Development, this position promotes, maintains and improves the physical, social and emotional well-being of College students and employees by means of health assessments, preventative health care, health education, health counselling and emergency care of the sick or injured. The incumbent will be working with members of the Student Wellness and Accessibility Centre and using the nursing process in the promotion of healthcare of students. The incumbent will provide evaluations and triages students’ health care needs, as determined in collaboration with the health care team. In addition, the incumbent will assist in ensuring legislative and contractual health requirements are met by students prior to commencing academic placements as well as participate on committees representing Health Services, Student Services and the College. The incumbent is expected to perform duties in accordance with the Ontario Occupational Health and Safety Act and regulations including, but not limited to, wearing/using protective equipment, devices, and/or clothing. In addition, the incumbent is expected to report to their supervisor any safety concerns, unsafe conditions or acts and any contraventions of the Act or regulations. This includes, but is not limited to, any defects in, or the absence of, protective devices or equipment.

Qualifications

The successful candidate will possess a Bachelor of Science in Nursing, a Certificate of Competence, and a minimum of three years of experience in community health nursing. A diploma in Occupational Health Nursing, CPR/First Aid Certificates and familiarity with the operation of technical instruments will be considered assets. Additional qualifications include: experience in phlebotomy, superior verbal and written communication skills; ability to utilize MS Office software; demonstrated leadership, organizational and problem solving skills; and the ability to work independently as well as part of a team.
