Position Summary

The incumbent will be responsible for facilitating academic accommodations for students with all types of disabilities. This includes: interviewing, case management and implementing appropriate procedures to support student success; determining appropriate academic accommodations and working closely with faculty to address the needs of students as they arise; developing and implementing individual learning plans and providing learning skills instruction; liaising with College administration, faculty and staff to ensure college policies and practices are consistent with the Ontario Human Rights Code and other relevant legislation; advocating within the College and beyond on a broad range of issues impacting students with disabilities including the promotion of universal design for learning on campus; and contributing to a positive, co-operative team environment.

Qualifications

Possession of a Masters degree in Counselling, Disability Studies, Education or a related field with a minimum of three years full-time experience in counselling, case management, or teaching. Other qualifications include: demonstrated experience interpreting the implications of various types of disabilities within an educational context; familiarity with the College/post-secondary environment; experience providing learning skills instruction; some experience with assistive technology; working knowledge of adult education theory and practice; working knowledge of the Ontario Human Rights Code and other relevant legislation in the post-secondary context; excellent written and verbal communication skills, teamwork, leadership, problem-solving, and creative thinking skills.
