Position Summary

The successful candidate will be responsible for delivering Humber College EAP curriculum in China at the STBC campus to the students in the Offshore English Language Centre. The successful candidate will teach a full range of courses and skills in the Offshore ELC, specifically in the English for Academic Purposes (EAP) program, including reading, writing, speaking, listening comprehension, grammar, research, and study skills. He/she will also participate in the refinement and redesign of the offshore EAP curricula, define and evaluate learning outcomes; develop appropriate learning materials, and provide academic counseling to students with special consideration for the unique international context of the program. The incumbent will also be expected to collaborate with other members of the program within STBC and staff in Humber’s English Language Centre in order to support student recruitment, student mentoring, contribution to the overall direction of the program, and the development of the partnership.


The successful candidate will have minimum qualifications of a Bachelor degree; TESL Canada/Ontario accreditation or OCELT certification; a minimum of one (1) year teaching experience in a Canadian or International post-secondary public or private sector environment in ESL programs. Industry acumen and experience is required along with specialized skills in the following areas: excellent presentation, communication, and human relations skills. In addition, the successful candidate will have engaging and effective teaching skills, demonstrated ability to coach and support students, demonstrated experience managing classroom dynamics, strong knowledge and application of current pedagogical principles, the ability to work with students of varied educational and cultural backgrounds; well-developed interpersonal skills; be a collaborative team player and be committed to a positive team culture. The successful candidate must have the ability to participate in three days of professional development training in Toronto, be able to live in China for 6+ months, and have proven cross cultural sensitivity. Finally, the ideal candidate will be flexible, adaptable to new situations, and comfortable with ambiguity.

This posting is hiring to teach exclusively in the Humber English for Academic Purposes program within our offshore partner institution in Taiyuan, China. The English Language Centre (ELC) plays a vital role in the Humber community. Our programs are specifically created to help fulfill the various language needs of students who wish to pathway into academic programs at the college, and develop their professional English expertise for their career, increase their confidence and comfort level with spoken English. The Humber-China Program is an Offshore English for Academic Purposes Program jointly administered by Humber Institute of Technology and Advanced Learning and Shanxi Technology and Business College (STBC). The program provides students with the opportunity to learn EAP in their home institution to smoothly pathway to Humber programs in Canada. DURATION: 4 or 12 months, renewable (1-3 semesters as per Chinese Academic Year)
