The successful candidate(s) will be required to teach a variety of courses in the Emergency Telecommunications program at the North campus (subject areas may include call management, crisis management, incident documentation, legislation and regulations, communication skills, and emergency telecommunications software and hardware). The incumbent will engage in a variety of activities that support teaching and learning and promote student success including: curriculum development; lesson planning; assessing student progress and achievement; and class management. Beyond their teaching duties, the successful candidate will be expected to establish an effective learning environment and work as a collaborative team member contributing to the overall direction of the program.
 
In addition, the successful candidate may, from time to time be called upon to contribute to assist with student recruitment, and the promotion and marketing of the program. These activities will require that the incumbent assist in the development and maintenance of strong industry connections and community partnerships. Lastly, the incumbent will be expected to participate on Humber College and departmental committees and advance college initiatives.

Qualifications

The successful candidate will be an Emergency Telecommunicator, with a relevant undergraduate degree (preference given to graduate degrees). Experience in paramedicine or firefighting is an asset. The candidate will have a minimum of 2 years of teaching experience, preferably at the post-secondary level; possess well-developed interpersonal communication and problem-solving skills; and a demonstrated ability in curriculum development and delivery. The candidate should also be conversant with current educational technologies, including in-class presentation media, learning management systems and other relevant classroom technologies. The successful candidate will have demonstrated learning assessment skills; a commitment to student-centered learning; ability to work with students of varied educational and cultural backgrounds; an interest and experience in functioning as a team member.
 
In addition, the successful candidate will have engaging and effective teaching skills adaptable to different instructional settings and student needs; ability to coach and support students, proven experience managing classroom dynamics, strong knowledge and application of current pedagogical principles, a student focused approach and a demonstrated commitment to fostering innovation and positive change. The successful candidate will have a demonstrated commitment to and knowledge of principles of equity and inclusion, be a collaborative team player and be committed to a positive team culture.

Compensation:

Academic starting salaries are determined based on qualifications and years of related experience as detailed in the collective agreement for academic employees. As per Article 14.03 A 3 of the Academic Collective Agreement, a Coordinator’s allowance will be paid in addition to the successful candidate’s salary as a Professor.
