Position Summary

The School of Media Studies & Information Technology (SMSIT) prepares graduates to enter the fields of media, arts and IT programming. Under the direction of the Manager, Placements & International Initiatives, the Placement Advisor plays a key role in student employment success. Given a portfolio of programs, the incumbent will facilitate job preparation workshops, provide students with feedback on their resumes and interview skills, and support them through the job search process. The Placement Advisor will be responsible for helping to prepare students for placement eligibility by facilitating the collection, tracking, and reporting of all pre and post placement documents. Using a collaborative team approach, the incumbent will also assist with job development, contribute to career events, build/maintain relationships with employers and industry partners, and maintain a database of contacts. This role will include other duties as assigned by the Manager, Placements & International Initiatives.

Qualifications

The successful candidate will hold an undergraduate degree or equivalent in a media-related discipline, along with at least 3 years of experience in human resources, marketing, staffing/recruitment, coop placement, and/or job development. The ideal candidate has exceptional administrative and organizational skills, and must be able to deliver engaging workshops, support a diverse student population, work under pressure with minimal supervision and cultivate positive relationships with multiple stakeholders. Other qualifications include high attention to detail, problem-solving skills, data management and advanced computer skills. Knowledge of Simplicity software considered an asset.
