Position Summary

Reporting to the Director, HR Support Services, the Manager, Compensation & Benefits will function collaboratively as a member of the Human Resources team and will manage all aspects of the College’s compensation, benefits, pension and job evaluation services and initiatives.
Responsibilities will include: creating and implementing functional processes to align with strategic directives; leading and developing a team of compensation and benefits professionals; developing the College’s performance-based pay structure, creating salary ranges and analyzing trends; participation in compensation surveys; providing guidance and direction to College senior management regarding compensation, benefits and pension; overseeing the job evaluation process; administration and consultation on the College’s pension plan; ensuring required changes to collective agreements are implemented accurately and timely; ensuring practices are in alignment with HR systems and adjusting as necessary to maintain efficiency. The Manager is also responsible for performing audits to ensure that the College is compliant with legislative requirements and collective agreements relating to compensation and benefits.


The successful candidate will possess a related undergraduate degree or equivalent, as well as a minimum of 7 years of progressive compensation, benefits and pension experience. The incumbent should possess a CHRL designation (or in progress).
Additional qualifications include: experience developing programs related to compensation and benefits, in particular a performance-based pay system; superior verbal and written communication skills, including the ability to effectively communicate compensation and benefits information to non-experts; demonstrated experience managing a diverse team; experience working in a unionized environment; an analytical approach to problem solving including data analysis; computer literacy, including proficiency in Microsoft Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Outlook and utilizing an HRIS; ability to excel in a team-based environment, where achievement of deliverables requires effective communication and follow-through; and a proven ability to work with sensitive/confidential information. Experience working in higher education will be considered an asset.
