Position Summary

Humber Libraries is looking for a programmer. The successful candidate will be a creative problem-solver with excellent communication skills to work collaboratively as part of the library systems team. The incumbent will support the library website, other library systems and eLearning initiatives. Responsibilities include: the design, development and administration of the Library’s website using Drupal and other web programming tools; the maintenance of the discovery search platform (Summon), authentication system (EZproxy), integrated library system (Sirsi), study room booking product (LibCal), and research guide platform (LibGuides); and the development of the digital signage and wayfinding kiosk project. The Library Systems Specialist is the technical expert in translating web-related user requirements into solutions and recommendations. This position provides eLearning support for library staff by creating learning objects, investigating tools, developing user instructional materials and training staff. In addition, the position supports students, faculty and staff (via email, in person, by phone) regarding all aspects of library systems, which includes liaising with vendors to trouble-shoot technical issues. The position requires the successful candidate to work collaboratively with the library team to support student success. Work shift changes as required.

Qualifications

The successful candidate will have a three-year diploma or degree in computing, information systems or web development as well as three years of experience in a similar role. Required skills: proven knowledge of and experience with Drupal, PHP, HTML, CSS and Javascript; interest in and aptitude to learn new software and emerging technologies quickly; demonstrated ability to pay attention to detail and perform work with a high degree of accuracy; excellent time management and organizational skills with the ability to work independently and exercise good judgement in a demanding environment; effective interpersonal skills to develop good working relationships; strong communications skills to interact with a variety of people with varying levels of technological sophistication. Experience in an academic or library environment would be an asset.
