Humber Libraries is looking for a tech savvy library technician with an aptitude for graphic design and marketing. Reporting to the Manager, Information Resources, the successful candidate will provide research help services in person and virtually to students and faculty at the North campus. The position will support the library makerspace and requires the candidate to be knowledgeable about digital creation tools and processes. In addition, the candidate will support e-Learning through the development of learning objects under the direction of faculty librarians. Candidates should possess a strong graphic design sensibility with demonstrated experience using Adobe Creative Suite. Knowledge and experience with a variety of social media platforms is an asset. The position requires the successful candidate to work collaboratively with the library team to support student success.
The successful candidate will have a community college library technician diploma or an equivalent combination of education and experience acceptable to Humber. Specific skills required include: a working knowledge of complex library resources and reference functions; an aptitude for technology, both hardware and software; an aptitude for graphic design; demonstrated experience in video tutorial creation; the ability to work independently and exercise good judgement in a demanding public service environment; excellent customer service and interpersonal skills; communications skills to interact with a variety of people with varying levels of technological sophistication; demonstrated analytical, problem-solving and organizational skills; the demonstrated ability to acquire subject expertise quickly to provide effective reference service; the demonstrated ability to communicate and enforce policy with patience, diplomacy and empathy; and a strong public service orientation. Knowledge of Springshare products such as LibGuides and screen recording and video editing software such as Camtasia would be an asset. An interest in and ability to stay current on emerging technologies with the goal of adapting them to the library environment is highly desired.
