Position Summary

Reporting to the Energy Efficiency Manager, Capital Development & Facilities Management, the Project Manager, Mechanical is primarily responsible for the effective delivery of small to medium-sized mechanical retrofit and optimization projects – expected project budgets range from tens of thousands to < $1M. A broad range of projects is expected, for example:
 
• Converting CV Systems to VAV
• Retrofitting AHUs with Energy Recovery Ventilators
• Retrofitting Rooftop Units and AHUs with VFDs, including controls modifications
• Retrofitting Pumps with VFDs, including controls and piping modifications to accommodate
• Central Chiller Plant Optimization
• District Energy Feasibility Studies, including converting systems from steam to hot water [with the potential integration of new heat recovery chillers or co-generation engines]
•Converting Pneumatics to DDC
• Developing Campus Peak Shedding Strategies
 
The incumbent will manage all aspects of these projects from the initial scope development stage through detailed engineering design, tendering, construction, deficiency completion, occupancy and warranty reviews. These projects will support Humber’s Integrated Energy Master Plan (IEMP); a long-term, strategic, multi-phase plan with the aim of making us a leader in global energy efficiency. Humber has committed to the ambitious goals of reducing energy use by 50%, reducing water use 50%, and reducing greenhouse gas emissions by 30%, all by 2034, including the establishment of a campus-wide energy culture.

Qualifications

The successful candidate will possess a Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering and be registered (or eligible for registration) as a P. Eng. The incumbent will have 5+ years of experience in design using Canadian building codes and design standards. The majority of the experience must be in the consulting industry with industrial, institutional and/or commercial buildings. Additional qualifications include; strong knowledge of the application of standard mechanical engineering methods and techniques; experience in diverse mechanical building services projects, including air-based and hydronic systems, boilers, chillers, rooftop, HVAC, controls, piping, plumbing, drainage and fire protection; experience with project management, energy conservation work and commissioning; ability to liaise with consultants, contracts and authorities; knowledge of financial, contractual and other administrative procedures, safety guidelines and project specific safety requirements; strong written and verbal communication skills and; demonstrated success in project delivery and execution of mechanical retrofit projects. Working knowledge of AutoCAD will be considered an asset.
