Position Summary

Reporting to the ECE Field Placement Resource Manager, Office of Experiential Learning, in the School of Health Sciences, the incumbent will work closely with the Field Placement Officer and Field Placement Resource Manager to provide feedback on the suitability of the field placement site for students. The Field Advisor is responsible for liaising between the ECE students, Early Childhood Education Field Placement department and field placement settings. The Field Placement Advisor will facilitate student achievement of field practicum learning outcomes. Specific responsibilities include: visits to assigned student’s field placement; providing guidance and support to field placement cooperating teacher; providing feedback on student field portfolio and assist cooperating teacher; participates in internal events such as field advisor meetings, and orientation to support student success; and utilizes critical thinking, problem solving and conflict management skills when addressing student performance issues in the field placement sites. In addition the incumbent will demonstrate awareness of the need, and implement as required, escalation of student performance issues to the Office of Experiential learning, and will communicate with various ECE Field Placement and Early Childhood Education Staff as it relates to student success in the field of early learning/education.

Qualifications

The successful candidate must have a diploma in Early Childhood Education. A related university degree will be considered an asset. A minimum of three years related experience is required with an emphasis in the area of Early Childhood Education, adult education and supervision. Current registration with the Ontario College of Early Childhood Educators is required. Computer literacy in word processing, spreadsheet applications and database is necessary. Highly developed communication and interpersonal skills are required, as well as excellent organizational, time management skills and conflict resolution skills with the ability to work independently towards establishing and meeting priorities. Access to a vehicle is required.
