Position Summary

Under the direction of the Dean, the Associate Dean provides academic and administrative leadership that supports students, faculty and staff within the school. Key responsibilities include contributing to school level strategic planning; providing leadership to a team of exemplary Program Coordinators and support staff; the recruitment and selection of exceptional faculty; participating in a variety of internal and external committees that contribute to the success of the College; working with partner groups including development and renewal of articulation agreements and professional advisory committees; establishing and maintaining budgets; and the capacity to support applied research. The Associate Dean will also initiate, facilitate and actively participate in the development and implementation of new academic programs and the ongoing review of existing programs in response to changing economic and market pressures within industry, college and ministry standards and guidelines.


The School of Social and Community Services is interested in applicants who can demonstrate the core values of the school, which include self- awareness, compassion, respect, inclusion and integrity, while providing leadership with equity, diversity, and inclusion initiatives that support students, faculty and staff within the school. The Associate Dean will provide this leadership as part of an administrative team within the school committed to enhancing the lives of students as learners while advancing Humber’s goal to be a leader in Polytechnic education. While the school includes a broad range of programming in Human Services, Fire Services and Criminal Justice, preference will be given to applicants with a background in Criminal Justice.
The successful candidate will possess a relevant graduate degree, with demonstrated success in leadership positions within the post-secondary environment, including a mix of post-secondary teaching and administrative experience. The incumbent must possess strong emotional intelligence and conflict resolution skills with the ability to connect and communicate with people while demonstrating patience and compassion. Strong oral and written communication skills are required. In addition, the applicant should possess experience that is linked to competencies required for the following: leadership and motivation of faculty, staff and students, hiring and directly supporting the development of exceptional postsecondary teachers; managing direct reports in a multi-union environment; serving the needs of students from diverse backgrounds in a range of programming; marketing and promoting college programs; monitoring program budgets; developing and launching new programs; leading or otherwise being a champion of student success, including partnership agreements and new ventures; practicing a collaborative leadership style; supporting research capacity, particularly where this has involved students. The candidate will have demonstrated the capacity to work collaboratively as a member of a strong administrative team. Occasional offsite travel will be required. The Associate Dean will be required to travel between all 3 of Humber’s campuses with the primary work setting being the Lakeshore campus.
