Position Summary

Under the direction of the Dean, School of Social & Community Services (SSCS), the Administrative Assistant to the Dean is responsible for providing confidential administrative leadership to the Dean’s Office and the SSCS. The incumbent will ensure effectiveness of the office in carrying out regular and recurring functions and in supporting the College’s Strategic and Academic Plans. This role will provide direct support to the Dean for the School’s Internationalization strategy and partnership activities. The incumbent will undertake responsibility for special assignments and projects as assigned by the Dean. The incumbent will assist with budget forecasting processes and will also assist with Human Resource functions as they relate to hiring. This role will manage a series of PT support staff members who will assist with International initiatives and partnership development.


The successful candidate will possess a 4-year undergraduate degree with a minimum of 3 years of related work experience. The incumbent must display superior analytical and research skills, strong customer services skills, and the ability to build and maintain internal and external relationships. The role also requires strong public relations, communications, and interpersonal skills, in particular, the ability to relate with individuals across the post-secondary spectrum from student government to high-level bodies, all in a positive and highly professional manner. A strong sense of judgement, impeccable problem-solving skills, and independent decision-making capacity is required. The incumbent must have strong time management skills and be able to respond to shifting priorities as they emerge. Intermediate level experience with Microsoft Office Suite (particularly Excel and Outlook) is a must. Working knowledge of the College system is an asset. The role will occasionally require the incumbent to work during evenings and weekends and occasional off-site travel will be required.
