Position Summary

Reporting to the Vice President, Student and Community Engagement of Humber College, the Director, Humber Libraries is responsible for the successful leadership of all aspects of Humber Libraries. The Director is part of Humber’s Student and Community Engagement and Academic and Administrative Leadership teams. Responsibilities include creating and operationalizing the strategic vision for Humber Libraries, connecting the Libraries’ mandate with institutional priorities and strategic, academic and divisional plans, and the Libraries’ collections, programs, facilities, and services. The Director also leads the continuing evolution of Humber Libraries as a service oriented, user-centred resource by innovating, integrating and promoting diverse resources, technologies and user supports.
 
The Director, Humber Libraries is responsible for collaborating with the academic community at Humber to cultivate a vibrant and supportive learning environment. Working in partnership with the academic schools, the Director, Humber Libraries oversees the selection, licensing, management and preservation of print and electronic resources, institutes innovative approaches to the development of academic supports for all modes of instruction delivery (in-class, hybrid and online), and ensures that Humber Libraries’ information resources are coordinated with academic programs, in support of curriculum needs and teaching, learning and research excellence. Functioning as the chief budget and planning officer of Humber Libraries, recruiting and leading high-quality staff, the Director works collaboratively with stakeholders to improve services, resources, facilities, and operational efficiencies. In addition, the Director is an advocate for Humber Libraries and proactively develops effective relationships with students, faculty, staff, and administration, cultivating synergies with Library partners, and fostering new sources of funding.

Qualifications

As the ideal candidate, you have a record of excellence in library administration with progressive leadership experience in large, complex libraries. You demonstrate a deep understanding of and passion for emerging trends in library technologies, academic libraries, and higher education generally, and are able to adapt to and embrace change. Experienced in library operations, including resource allocation, human resources and the evaluation of academic library services, you have proven success in financial management and an ability to lead staff and create a culture of collaboration and engagement. In addition, you have strong communication and relationship building skills, a service orientation and a genuine interest in working with students, faculty and library partners. You have a Masters of Library Science (or a related discipline) from an ALA-accredited program or equivalent. A PhD would be considered an asset, although is not required, and experience in a college and/or university library is preferred.
