The English Language Centre (ELC) plays a vital role in the Humber community. Our programs are specifically created to help fulfill the various language needs of students who wish to pathway into academic programs at the college or university level, develop their professional English expertise for their career, increase their confidence and comfort level with spoken English and/or teach English either in Canada or internationally. The successful candidate will teach a full range of courses and skills in the ELC, specifically in the English for Academic Purposes (EAP) program, including reading, writing, speaking, listening comprehension, grammar, research and study skills and in the Teaching English as a Second Language (TESL) program. In addition to teaching, the incumbent will develop curriculum, design/revise specific courses, create an effective and innovative learning environment for our students, assess student progress and achievement; and consult colleagues, program advisory committee members and related associations. Additionally, the successful applicant will be expected to work as an effective team member and engage in committee work, departmental initiatives and classroom-relevant research.
 
The incumbent will also support student advising, mentoring, student recruitment, graduate placement, assist with the promotion and marketing of programs and develop and maintain strong industry ties.

Qualifications

The successful candidate will have graduate credentials (at minimum an M.A. or M. Ed.) in a relevant academic discipline, preferably Applied Linguistics, TESL/TESOL, Second Language Education, Rhetoric and Composition or English; post-degree teaching certification in second language education (TESL Ontario certification is required); a minimum of (3) years teaching experience in a post-secondary environment in EAP/ESL/TESL programs. Industry acumen and experience is also required.
 
In addition, the successful candidate will have engaging and effective teaching skills, demonstrated ability to coach and support students, demonstrated experience managing classroom dynamics, strong knowledge and application of current pedagogical principles, a student focused approach and a demonstrated commitment to fostering innovation and positive change. The successful candidate will have a demonstrated commitment to and knowledge of principles of equity and inclusion, be a collaborative team player and be committed to a positive team culture. The successful candidate will possess well developed interpersonal communication and problem solving skills and have demonstrated ability to contribute positively to curriculum development and delivery.
