Position Summary

Humber Galleries seeks a Curator in Residence to lead the research, planning, coordination, and evaluation of exhibition programming across our two locations in 2018/2019. The successful candidate will be responsible for coordinating the annual exhibition program including partner and guest curated exhibitions and for curating two to four exhibitions which: engage multiple publics, support Humber’s polytechnic educational mission, and present contemporary art in Etobicoke. Reporting to and in close collaboration with the Curator, the Curator in Residence will contribute to the overall development of Humber Galleries’ 2018/2019 programming and its relationship to polytechnic learning. The Curator in Residence will provide strategic operational and administrative support to the Curator and perform other duties as required.


The successful candidate will posses at minimum a Masters in Curatorial Practice or equivalent combination of education and work experience. A minimum of 4 years of experience within contemporary art organizations and experience in all aspects of exhibition making and project management is required. A deep understanding of local, regional, national, and international contemporary art landscape is required as is a well-developed process for turning ideas into experiences. Additional qualifications include: cultivating a mutual learning environment; leadership of students and staff through the technical aspects of art handling and installation; a proven ability to reflect, analyze, and synthesize in many forms, from conversation to writing; the capacity to respond to challenges with grace and initiative; and an outstanding ability to multi-task, respect overlapping timelines, balance a demanding schedule within part time hours, and anticipate issues beforehand
