Jr. Horticulture Technician
Reporting to the Director, Humber Arboretum, the incumbent is responsible for performing a range of horticulture and landscaping practices required for the maintenance of ornamental gardens and natural conservation areas. Work is consistent with the high standards required of an Arboretum/Botanical Garden of some 100 hectares, which functions also as an essential learning resource and visiting site for summer camp children, community members, and Humber College staff and students.
The successful candidate will possess a certificate, diploma, or degree in Horticulture, Landscaping, Turf Management, Environmental Restoration/Conservation or equivalent and must have a Class 5 Driver’s license. The candidate will also have at least two years of experience in the following:
• Safe and effective operation of riding mowers and line trimmers
• Horticulture maintenance, turf care, and/or invasive species management
• Minor maintenance of riding mowers, line trimmers, blowers, and golf carts
A required skill is the ability to identify Ontario invasive species and common weeds. The incumbent must also demonstrate keen attention to detail and be able to work independently, be self-motivated and safety-conscious. Additionally, as a collaborative team player, they will be committed to a positive team culture. Candidate will at times be required to lift equipment up to 35 lbs.
