Position Summary

Under the direction of the Manager, Student Financial Services, the Student Financial Services Advisor liaises with current students throughout the academic year to provide a high level of customer service, information and ensure effective and accurate communication. The incumbent's organizational skills are critical to the timely processing of OSAP applications and supporting the efficient operations of the Student Financial Services department. This involves ensuring that students receive maximum funding and ensuring that they meet all criteria and requirements of OSAP policies as stated by the Ministry of Advanced Education and Skills Development. The incumbent provides expert advice to students, parents/partners and other third parties, and at times deals with sensitive and highly confidential information. The incumbent ensures that the integrity of the University is maintained by accurately processing financial services documents including OSAP, awards, bursaries, and tuition and fee processing. The incumbent acts as a first point-of-contact for financial services related questions. S/he communicates with students in person, over the telephone and via e-mail. The incumbent may also be called upon to represent the University of Guelph-Humber in various recruitment forums on- and off-campus

Qualifications

The successful candidate will possess a three-year post-secondary degree along with two years of practical and work related experience preferably in a post-secondary customer service, registration or financial services environment. Additional qualifications include: excellent written and verbal communication skills; well-developed interpersonal, listening and customer relations skills; proficiency with Windows, MS Office applications/word processing software; and excellent telephone and communications skills (able to relate professionally and respectfully to a wide cross-section of people representing diverse backgrounds). In addition, the successful candidate will have demonstrated organizational skills and the ability to handle multiple tasks and interruptions, be self-motivated, independent and able to prioritize work with minimal supervision. Sound knowledge of policies and procedures governing the Ontario Student Assistance Program is required.
