Associate Dean, Advanced Manufacturing
Reporting to the Dean, School of Applied Technology (SAT), the Associate Dean, Advanced Manufacturing, works collaboratively with the Dean and other members of the administration in the development and implementation of the school’s strategic initiatives as part of the college’s academic plan. The incumbent provides academic leadership and management within the area of emerging technologies and applied research in Advanced Manufacturing. They also provide academic and administrative leadership, supervision and direction to the faculty, managers, support staff and students of the School in the programs included in their portfolio.
The Associate Dean ensures that the objectives of the programs are attained through effective supervision of teaching and learning; facilitates the on-going development, review and renewal of programs to reflect current and future market changes, the employment needs of industry and innovation and partnerships for emerging technologies. The Associate Dean also supports in a variety of capacities, the development of applied research initiatives related to emerging technologies. This will involve leading academics at SAT working closely with colleagues at Humber College and other academic institutions to further enhance and expand upon existing links and collaborations with academic and industrial partners – as part of establishing Humber College as a world leader in this area.
The successful candidate will have a postgraduate degree in Engineering in a discipline relevant to Advanced Manufacturing (Ph.D. preferred) and membership with a relevant professional and/or industrial body where appropriate (P.Eng. required). A minimum of 9 years of combine Industry and academia experience is required, along with demonstrated competence in advanced level college curriculum development, program and schedule planning and evaluation. The incumbent will have demonstrated effectiveness in teaching and work experience in fields relevant to the school programming. Knowledge of broader social, employment and economic contexts as it relates to existing and potential course offerings of the School is essential, as well as a demonstrated
commitment to inter-professional education and collaboration within the school and college community. Additionally, the incumbent will have administrative or leadership experience at the community college level for the purpose of developing and managing budgets, administration of policies and procedures and management of human resources. Excellent listening skills, verbal and written communication skills and an ability to communicate and negotiate with people are essential, as well as computer literacy and experience with software to support teaching, research and administrative activities.
