Humber College has been named as one of the Best Employers for New Canadians for 2012 by Mediacorp Canada Inc. The award recognizes employers with the best initiatives and programs to assist recent immigrants to Canada. Humber was also previously recognized as one of Canada’s Top Employers for Young People 2011 and one of Greater Toronto’s Top Employers 2012.

As one of Canada’s largest and most dynamic postsecondary institutions, Humber attracts and retains employees in many ways, including professional development, competitive compensation and health benefits, and an inclusive and positive culture that drives continuous improvement in the workplace.

Youssef Youssef, professor in The Business School, is a new employee who started working at Humber in January 2012. As a new Canadian originally from Brazil, he said “I love the work culture at Humber. There is a sense of family and belonging. New Canadians need social and professional integration in order to survive. Humber gave me the opportunity to do this; to be a full-time Canadian worker who contributes to the progress of this country.”

The Best Employers for New Canadians competition is managed by the editors of Canada’s Top Employers in partnership with ALLIES, a joint initiative of the The Maytree Foundation and The J.W. McConnell Family Foundation, two foundations with long histories of strengthening Canadian communities. This is the sixth year the awards have been given out.

Humber College Institute of Technology & Advanced Learning has been named one of Canada’s Top Employers for Young People for 2011 by Mediacorp Canada Inc., as part of its annual competition. Recognized employers are considered Canada’s leaders in attracting and retaining younger employees to their organizations.

Humber was selected as a Top Employer for Young People based on information provided to Mediacorp as part of the college’s submission for consideration as one of Canada’s Top 100 Employers and through Mediacorp’s own research.

Each winner is evaluated by Canada’s Top 100 Employers editors on the programs they have to attract and retain younger workers. These include tuition assistance, co-op or work-study programs, mentorship and training programs, and bonuses paid for course or professional designation completion. Other criteria include the employer's career management program, the composition and profile of the workforce.
