Equity and Inclusion Committee

Mandate

The Equity and Inclusion Committee (EIC) promotes leadership, innovation, collaboration and information sharing on all matters relating to Equity, Diversity, Inclusion and the Employment Equity program within the college. The EIC provides assistance to members of the College community in their roles as effective change agents, strategic planners and leadership developers.

The Equity and Inclusion Committee facilitates the development and maintenance of collaborative partnerships with community agencies to achieve a workforce in which designated group members are represented and participate equitably at all levels and in all occupations at the College.

The Equity and Inclusion Committee was established by the College with responsibility shared jointly by representatives of the Union Locals and the College to act as a consultative body on the development of an Employment Equity Program.

The Equity and Inclusion Committee is an advisory body that is consulted by the Human Resources & Organizational Effectiveness Department on policies and procedures of Employment Equity and the Ontario Human Rights Code.

It is recognized that the Human Resources & Organizational Effectiveness Department will be responsible for approving and implementing the Employment Equity Action Plans.

Philosophy & Values

Humber College and OPSEU Locals 562 and 563 are jointly committed to the principles of inclusion and employment equity. Specifically, they recognize that:

  • All people are entitled to equitable treatment in employment in accordance with the Ontario Human Rights Code.
  • Designated group members: Indigenous peoples, persons with disabilities, visible minorities/racialized and women. Humber College includes gender and sexual diversity. The identified groups are entitled to be hired and promoted in an environment that is free of barriers, including systemic and deliberate practices and policies that discriminate against them as members of a designated group.

Objectives

The Equity and Inclusion Committee is committed to:

  • Researching, forecasting, and analyzing emerging trends in diversity and equity management to meet the needs of the College
  • Fostering an inclusive environment
  • Planning and implementing strategies related to increasing diversity, equity and inclusive awareness among the Humber community
  • Reporting on the needs, plans, activities and anticipated results in the area of diversity
  • Providing education and training
