Award Recipients

Naveed Aqeel is the Digital Learning Specialist at Humber who ensures the smooth running of Blackboard,ourLearning Management System (LMS). Over these past two years, Humber, as with most post-secondary institutions, has been required to rely even more heavily on the LMS to keep learning going and to deliver on our promise to students. Not only did Naveed provide top-notch technical support during the pandemic, but he provided mentorship to the Innovative Learning team, to ensure that they could support the institution as a whole.

During this period Humber also recognized the need to update our LMS to provide students with a more modern, mobile friendly and sleek experience. This move to Ultra meant that Naveed was key to understanding the best wayto move courses, to adapting to the differences between BB Original and BB Ultra, and to organizing our efforts.With the support of faculty and the Innovative Learning team, Naveed led us to successfully migrate 83% of our close to 7000 Winter 2022 courses to Ultra and that work has continued this Summer. We also recognized that we needed to remove old versions of courses that had been accumulating since 2011.

Naveed again was the lead person to create a reasonable, transparent and achievable processthat allowed the Humber community to identify courses that they required to ensure minimal impact on operations. Again Naveed led the Innovative team in training to ensure that we could efficiently support the work. In the end, we were able to remove over 40000 courses, significantly reducing our overhead costs. Naveed’s collegial, collaborative, and professional manner meant that we could achieve these important improvements, even during the challenge of COVID-19.
